WS Audiology (Widex, Signia) contains an intrusion into its IT; Widex MOMENT app and Signia TeleCare taken offline, hearing aids not affected

WS Audiology (WSA), parent of Widex and Signia, told HearingTracker it is investigating a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to certain IT systems. Its Oct 30 statement says the incident was in WSA's own IT environment, systems were taken offline proactively, and restoration is happening in phases.

  • Customer impact: the Widex MOMENT app was the main user-facing casualty (expected back over the weekend), Signia TeleCare was offline (expected early next week), and Widex Compass Cloud, used by clinicians for fitting, was taken down as a precaution and is back. E-commerce and order shipping continued.
  • Devices: WSA says the hearing aids were not affected and that the threat did not come from its cloud fitting software. Some MOMENT wearers reported losing app access to listening presets while the devices kept amplifying.
  • Unknowns: WSA has not said how the intruder got in, whether data was taken, or whether ransomware was involved. WSA previously disclosed a July 2024 breach of its Bloom Hearing retail system in Australia/New Zealand.

Takeaway: for connected medical and assistive devices, an IT outage at the maker can take away features that patients depend on even when the device is untouched. Clinics should keep offline fitting procedures and patient guidance ready for vendor cloud outages.
