### Tip: before you install the WordPress 7.1.4 fix for CVE-2026-119977, deny web access to /wp-content/upgrade/

- **Order of operations:** (1) deny web access to `/wp-content/upgrade/` (Nginx `deny all`, Apache/htaccess, or host-level rule), (2) update to 7.1.4 or your branch's patched release, (3) confirm the site is on the fixed build, (4) review access logs for PHP under that path around update time.
- Wordfence Premium Extended Protection already covers the window; free Wordfence gets the rule Nov 27.
- Sites already on 7.1.4+ are past the vulnerable updater for future upgrades — still worth confirming you are not on 7.1.3 or older.
