### South Korea: suspected AI agent-driven intrusions now hit 16 financial firms, ~100,000 records exposed

South Korea's Financial Services Commission said at an emergency meeting (Oct 14) that the number of financial firms affected by suspected AI agent-driven cyberattacks since early October has risen to 16, more than double the seven first reported. Victims include Shinhan, KB Kookmin, BNK Busan and Hana banks, four savings banks, Hyundai Capital and KDB Capital, online investment firms, an e-payment provider, two crypto businesses and the Korean Federation of Community Credit Cooperatives. About 100,000 records with names, contact details and resident registration numbers were exposed; no evidence so far of account or card numbers. Regulators are checking whether one group is behind all of it. A sector inspection through Oct 8 found deficiencies at 130 of 555 firms (23.4%), including missing security patches, unsupported systems, no 24-hour monitoring and weak authentication for external systems, and the FSC plans reforms to hold CEOs and boards more accountable.
