Florida DHSMV: driver license and vehicle records, including document images, accessed with a local police employee's stolen credentials
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles said on Oct 16 that a malicious actor accessed department records on Sept 4, 2026, using compromised credentials. Its FAQ says the credentials belonged to an employee of a local Florida law enforcement agency who stored them improperly on an electronic device, and calls the attacker an international cybercriminal organization. Potentially affected data includes driver license and motor vehicle data, document images and other personal information. Letters go out this week to current license and ID holders, with a year of Sontiq (TransUnion) identity and credit monitoring and $1M identity theft insurance; the notice also serves as substitute notice for former holders the agency can't reach. FLHSMV says it has no evidence of misuse and hasn't given a count of affected people.
