Town of Bernalillo, New Mexico confirms cyberattack took down most online services
Bernalillo officials confirmed on Oct 15 that what looked like an internet outage over the weekend was, in Mayor Jack Torres's words, a "full-blown cyberattack." Most online town services are down, including online water-bill payment, and the town's Motor Vehicle Division office is closed. Police, fire and water service are still running. The town is working with the FBI, the New Mexico Office of Cybersecurity and outside responders, and it is waiving late fees and pausing disconnections. Officials haven't said whether personal data was accessed, who did it, or when services will be back.
