Anne Arundel County, Maryland confirms files were copied in an August 2026 intrusion, its second incident in 18 months

Anne Arundel County said on Oct 15 that it detected irregular activity on Aug 28, 2026, and that an unauthorized actor reached a limited number of systems and copied files. The county says operations and essential services weren't disrupted, it is reviewing the files to learn whose data was involved, and it will notify affected people as the law requires. It says there is no sign of fraud and no link to its earlier incident. Separately, the county said its review of the Jan 28 to Feb 22, 2025 intrusion is finished and notification letters go out starting the week of Oct 19, 2026. The Rhysida ransomware leak site reportedly listed the county around Oct 9 with large data claims. That claim has not been confirmed by the county.
